Try 500F for three to four hours.  I took it to 500F for two hours and fell short.  Think about it as getting a cookie to burn all the way through, not just on the surface.  Mine were crusty and didn't go into the stone deep enough to stay black throug...

Thank you for the advise. I will try to stay with hard solder from now on. We havent worked with any silver yet. We are still in base metals, like copper and nu gold and nickel. What our Professor does is demonstrate the techniques and gives us a hand...

Would you just look at all those reds in that opal. I will say that parcel paid for itself....and then some!! Nice work!
